The BlueLoop offering: circularity in action

Automotive • 02 November 2026

In industry, the end of a part’s service life does not have to mean the end of the material it is made from. With the BlueLoop offering, EXSTO is developing a closed-loop approach to recover automotive plastic parts at the end of their service life, recycle the material and use it to manufacture new parts.

Keeping materials in the loop

Traditionally, when a part reached the end of its service life, so did the material it was made from. The BlueLoop offering takes a different approach by creating a closed-loop system.

Parts that have reached the end of their service life are collected and sorted. The material is then prepared, recycled and tested before being used to manufacture new parts. Each stage is designed to ensure material traceability and verify that the recovered material meets the requirements of its intended application.

The BlueLoop offering therefore goes beyond recycling. The goal is to turn recovered material into a new industrial resource while maintaining the required levels of quality, reliability and performance.

A first industrial loop in the automotive sector

The BlueLoop offering is currently being implemented through a pilot project at a customer’s automotive production site, involving technical parts used in the paint shop. At the end of their service life, the parts are recovered and enter a process through which their material is recycled and used in new production runs.

This cycle is already up and running: it ranges from organizing the collection and ensuring consistent volumes to preparing the materials, including verifying their properties and validating new parts.

It demonstrates that a closed-loop approach can work in a demanding industrial environment, provided the entire value chain is properly controlled.

This first application is a starting point. The approach can be adapted to other parts, production sites and material streams, depending on their technical, industrial and economic feasibility.

Materials expertise supporting circularity

The value of the BlueLoop offering lies in EXSTO’s ability to combine materials expertise, process know-how and a deep understanding of in-service requirements.

Recovered materials are characterised, tested and validated against the performance requirements of their intended applications.

This expertise enables a pragmatic approach to circularity, not as a standalone environmental promise, but as an industrial project bringing together materials, design, production, logistics and quality.

A closed loop built through partnership

A circular loop cannot be created by one company alone. It requires close collaboration across the value chain.

Industrial and logistics partners need to coordinate material flows, parts collection, recycling and the reintegration of recovered materials into new production runs.

This collaboration makes it possible to adapt each loop to the specific requirements of the application and turn circularity ambitions into solutions that can be implemented at industrial scale.

Reducing environmental impact without compromising performance

The BlueLoop offering provides a practical way to reduce waste from end-of-life parts, limit the use of virgin materials and keep existing materials in the production cycle for longer.

By giving an existing resource a new industrial use, the approach also aims to reduce the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new parts, while maintaining the quality and performance standards required by the automotive industry.
