EXSTO is strengthening its ability to support the ESG objectives of its industrial customers. Our Romans site is now ISCC PLUS Mass Balance certified, enabling the company to offer selected polyurethane formulations that combine expected performance, more responsible raw materials, and certified traceability.
In demanding industrial sectors, the transition to more sustainable solutions cannot come at the expense of performance, quality, or reliability. This is especially true for critical applications such as Subsea, energy, and environments exposed to severe mechanical and operational constraints.
With the achievement of ISCC PLUS Mass Balance certification at its Romans facility, EXSTO has reached another important milestone. This certification enables the company to offer selected material formulations incorporating a certified allocation of feedstocks sourced from bio-based, bio-circular, or circular supply chains.
For industrial customers, the benefit is tangible: the ability to meet ESG requirements, material traceability expectations, and responsible procurement objectives without compromising the technical performance demanded by their applications.
What is Mass Balance?
Mass Balance is a chain-of-custody method used when conventional and alternative feedstocks are integrated within the same production or supply chain.
This approach does not necessarily mean that every individual part physically contains an identifiable proportion of bio-based, bio-circular, or circular material. Instead, it relies on a certified allocation principle: the volumes of certified feedstocks introduced into the system are tracked, verified, and allocated to products or projects according to predefined rules.
This methodology supports the gradual transformation of industrial value chains without requiring disruptive changes to manufacturing processes or compromising product performance requirements.
Same performance, more responsible materials, certified traceability
For EXSTO, this certification reflects both an industrial and commercial commitment: offering a more responsible, certified solution while maintaining the performance standards required for polyurethane applications.
This capability is particularly relevant in markets where technical constraints are significant and ESG expectations are rapidly increasing. Subsea is one of the priority sectors, especially for projects requiring reliability, durability, traceability, and alignment with the sustainability objectives of major contractors and operators.
The objective is clear: enable customers to integrate a Mass Balance-certified product into their projects while maintaining the performance standards that define the value of EXSTO polyurethane solutions.
This approach addresses three key customer expectations:
- advancing ESG objectives through a certified and traceable approach;
- maintaining industrial performance requirements;
- anticipating future tender requirements that increasingly include sustainability, traceability, and responsible sourcing criteria.
A concrete step forward in EXSTO’s Impact initiative
This certification is part of EXSTO’s Impact initiative and reflects the Group’s commitment to making tangible, measurable, and credible progress on sustainability and responsibility topics.
At a time when environmental claims must be accurate and verifiable, EXSTO has chosen an evidence-based approach: a recognized certification, a clearly defined industrial scope, and a practical application designed to meet customer needs.
With this ISCC PLUS Mass Balance certification, EXSTO is providing its customers with an additional solution for projects where performance, traceability, and responsibility must move forward together.
